A federal law enforcement source told WPBF 25 News that Omar Mateen had scouted Downtown Disney as a possible target shortly before he shot and killed 49 people at Pulse nightclub.
The source said federal agents were investigating that angle and trying to determine the actual time frame, but it appears to have been in the days immediately preceding the Pulse attack.
According to People.com, Mateen’s wife, Noor Salman, told the FBI she and Mateen had visited Orlando in April and he had scouted both Pulse and Downtown Disney sometime after that.
Downtown Disney, recently renamed Disney Springs, does not have the strict security that Disney World uses at its entrances.
ABC News is now reporting officials are considering possible criminal charges against Noor Salman.
